Curvy Night Out!

Hello Curvy Superstars!

Even though we may be stuck inside, I’m happy to provide a fashion distraction. In March, I had the pleasure of hosting a Night Out with Marina Rinaldi showcasing the new design collection by ROXSANDA. 

A division of the Max Mara brand, the company, founded in 1951 by Achille Maramotti, is based in Reggio Emilia in Northern Italy, and Marina Rinaldi is the name of the family’s legendary great grandmother who, in the 1800s, was the effective founder of clothes cut to fit curvy shapes.

For years, I have shopped at Marina Rinaldi for my celebrity clients. It was such a tremendous honor when they invited me to style this new capsule collection for an evening in their Beverly Hills boutique. It was a dream to partner with one my favorite luxe curvy brands and celebrate fashion (sizes range from 4 to 24) that work for every ocassion from a power lunch to the boardroom to date night.

“What a blast we had that night as models floated about the room flaunting the new collection, guests experiencing first hand the luxe, colorful and modern but chill outfits with signature cocktails “. Celebrities including Golden Globe and Emmy winner Camryn Manheim, Oscar and Tony winner Marcia Gaye Harden and celebrity stylists such as Philip Bloch browsed the collection for their clients while fashion influencers and entertainment executives shopped for their new pieces.

Queen Latifah Slays ​2019 VMAs in Orange!

 

 

 

 

 

 

The buzz around the 2019 VMAs was huge, with surprises, tributes and a brand-new locale. Queen Latifah was asked to perform in a Hip Hop tribute to Jersey and reunite with her co-star from Hairspray, John Travolta as a presenter.

 

When Latifah and I began to collaborate on her look, her vision was a sun-kissed and fresh vibe to end the summer. I was inspired by Sergio Hudson’s 2019 Fall/Winter collection and chose his vibrant bold pantsuit.

“Modern Day Curves” on The Steve Harvey Show!

Mr. Harvey invited me to appear on his show “Steve” to speak about the latest fashion trends for Spring 2019 and how women can rock those trends for their bodies from size 2 up to 22. The segment was entitled Modern Day Curves and it began with Q&A with the studio audience and ended with a colorful and sophisticated fashion show.

The setting was dramatic and I featured four fashion categories; daywear/casual, power suiting, date night and resort wear. My message to you ladies is to think outside of the box and work each look to fit your particular body type.

Queen Latifah Sparkles at the 2019 Oscars!

Queen Latifah sparkled as she presented one of the Best Motion Picture nominees for the 2019 Oscar presentation. The Oscar red carpet featured unique silhouettes in metallics on Jennifer Lopez, Amy Adams and Emma Stone.

I collaborated with designer Michael Costello to create a classic silhouette using black organza and shimmering pave tone on tone revealing just the right amount of skin.

The biggest challenge is a lack of amazing products. It has become 1,000% better, but there is such a long way to go. For example, the shopping experience is dismal; more retailers need to put forth more effort in creating an experience. Through clothing presentation, lighting, visuals, music etc – create a hip factor.

Always funny and entertaining, the Steve Harvey show aired a one-hour special celebrating the Curvy Body. I had the pleasure of returning to the show to do two segments, a “dress for less” fashion segment and a “date night” makeover for a lovely lady.

For the fashion show segment, I presented major red carpet trends and re-created the looks for up to 75% less. Brands are finally recognizing the need for quality pieces that are on trend for the curvy market.

For the next segment I worked with Anna, a guest who needed a “date night” look that would make her feel beautiful and confident. She wanted something feminine and sexy inspired by Melissa McCarthy’s lacy red carpet look.

I chose a fit and flare silhouette to accentuate her hourglass figure and THE color trend of the season “Bordeaux”. Anna was ready for a night out feeling confident, beautiful and feminine.

Purchase a men’s dress shirt with french cuffs and have your local cleaners fit it to your body. Wear the cuffs down with or without cuff links.

Look #1 – The Military Jacket + Black Dress + Stacked Bootie + Vintage Pins

The drawstring creates an hourglass silhoutte that accentuates the waist and brings a feminine look to an otherwise masculine jacket. The chunky heeled bootie works for women who may not want to wear a skinnier heel.

Look #2 – The Camo Capelet + White Tunic + Slouched Pant + Suede Heel

The Capelet is a huge trend shown here in a camo print. It can be worn with a crisp white button down shirt, tunic, turtle neck, tee shirt or contrasting camo print. The Slouched pant brings an urban feel to the look accented with the sophistication of a suede heel. Don’t just wear the military look during the day, wear it in the evening as well.

Look #3 –  The Bomber Jacket + Tee + Pleated Skirt + Bootie

The Bomber jacket is a military classic and this outfit feminizes what would normally be a masculine piece. Many curvy women prefer the look of an a-line skirt and the placement of these pleats flatter every body type. The event brought out entertainment, fashion and music tastemakers hosted by Grammy Award winning producer Randy Jackson, Katharine Harf Co-founder of DKMS and Claudio Cividino, Bally Americas CEO.

Curvy Style is a series on CentricTV that documents one of Hollywood’s hottest celebrity stylists on his fashion-forward journey to help thicker-than-a-Snicker celebs, and everyday women, feel beautiful, confident, and comfortable in their skin. This is a beautiful thing.

The show is a beautiful thing, because for as long as I can remember, plus size women have typically been excluded from dialogue surrounding fashion and beauty.
